How is Pack 434 Organized?

Dens

A small group of Cub Scouts who are in the same grade. Pack 434 does not segregate the dens by gender. The ideal size is 6 to 8 Cub Scouts. Please refer to the Boy Scouts of America webpage for additional information about ranks.

An adult, usually a parent of one of our Cub Scouts, serves as a Den Leader. They carry out the activities related to adventures as they are presented in the Cub Scout’s handbook and the Den Leader Guide. Nixa Pack 434 has two Den meetings a month to work on activities, and badges, and advancement requirements.

Although Den meetings are led by the leader, we ask that parents be present to assist with their scout as necessary. A parent/guardian must be in attendance with their scout if they are a Lion or Tiger Rank per BSA and Pack 434 policy.

Pack

The Nixa 434 Pack is made up of all the Pack 434 Dens. The entire Pack meets once a month, generally at the American Legion 434 location.  Pack meetings are not a drop-off activity. A parent or guardian must attend Pack meetings with their scout. Parents participate in the Pack meeting activities, and this is the time for scouts to receive recognition and achievements, so parental attendance is important. Please no cell phones or texting during the Pack meeting; photography is acceptable.

What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family.  In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

What are the Cub Scout Ranks?

Cub Scouts are organized by age/school grade.

  1. Bobcat – all Scouts start as Bobcats, no matter what age they are when they enter Cub Scouts. After demonstrating preliminary achievements, like understanding the Scout Oath, a Scout advances to the next age appropriate rank.

  2. Tiger – first graders or 7-year-olds work toward earning their Tiger badge. So while a child is in the “Tiger rank” he or she is achieving the necessary adventures and requirements to earn their Tiger badge. This is the same process for Wolf and Bear ranks.

  3. Wolf – this rank is for 8-year-olds or Scouts who have finished first grade.

  4. Bear – this rank is for 9-year-olds or Scouts who have finished second grade.

  5. Webelos – these Scouts have finished third grade or are 10 years old. The requirements Scouts work on as Webelos contribute to earning their Arrow of Light.

  6. Arrow of Light – this is highest rank in Cub Scouts. Earning this rank prepares a Webelos Scout to become a Boy Scout. The Arrow of Light badge is also the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform.

Each rank teaches kids important lessons to prepare them for growing up. The higher the rank, the more challenging its requirements.
